Waiting, waiting, anticipating...
me and the bump (plus cousin) waaay back around 24 weeks
We are on tenterhooks awaiting the arrival of my cousin's baby. Any day now! I'm on speed dial as one of only three rellies in Australia and the only one in Melbourne. My Aunt, Uncle and other cousin -Granny, Granddad and Aunty Katie to the baby- live in England and my cousin's husbands' family all reside in New Zealand. We are a quite the global lot!
I feel very honoured to be at the top of the speed dial when she goes into labour. Caroline has requested I keep a clean pair of knickers in my work bag as the plan is that I'll baby-sit the eldest three while she is in hospital.
I popped around tonight to attempt to help her around the house. She is ready to pop and the weather forecast is predicting a scorching 39 degrees on Thursday. I say that I attempted to help as I really didn't feel like I did much. The kids were crawling all over me as I'm a novelty when I turn up. Managed to get a few things done though. I'm heading back tomorrow night picking up fresh fruit, veg and milk on the way. She is a total girl scout- well prepared with non-perishable food items as she likely won't get out for a few weeks. With baby number four I'll be impressed if all she manages is a shower by the end of the day!
Waiting, waiting...It will be so exciting to welcome the newest addition to our little family; discover if I have a new "nephew" or "niece" (I'm an honorary aunty rather than a real one) and watch the reactions of Aaron, Samuel and Olivia as they become big brothers again, and a big sister for the first time.
The boys told me that they aren't expecting much from the baby other than screaming so we seem to be on fairly realistic ground to start!

What an exciting time for everyone. There's nothing quite like welcoming a new bubba to the family. All the best and hoping he/she has a smooth arrival.
ReplyDeleteAaron wants my brother to film the birth of his new sibling. He doesn't seem to understand why we all think that is such an amusing idea. NOT going to happen!
DeleteWhat a great role you get to do - how exciting. I recall being called at 2am once for a girlfriend to come over and pick up her oldest child when her waters broke. It was pretty nice watching the little boy become an older brother and his excitement.
ReplyDeleteIt's very special isn't it=? I'm sure it will all go too quickly.
DeleteHow very exciting! And what an important role you're playing to help her through this. Let us know when the baby arrives.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. You couldn't stop me!
DeleteEeeeeeeep! How exciting! Exciiiitiiiiiing. Wishing them and you all the very best! My nephew (sister-in-law's son) is about to turn two in a matter of weeks (day before Oz Day, actually) and MY GOD is he the cutest! :-)
ReplyDeletetwo is such a cute age! Still chubby and full of comments on the world that are hilarious due to their observatory nature. I love that stage where you ask toddlers if someone is a boy or a girl. For ages Aaron was convinced my Mum was a boy because she had short hair. So interesting to see their little curious minds develop.
DeleteI wish you all the best! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about following each other? :>
xoxo
Such exciting news when a new baby is on the way!
