Swings and roundabouts

On the eighth day of February my true love gave to me, a plastic Tyrannosaurus Rex.

There is a good reason for this. It involves childhood trauma brought on by my brother- he caught a fly and put it down my T-Rex's mouth and held it closed. Even though logically the fly most likely escaped, it was never the same with that gorgeous green T-Rex. The innocent fly and its possible grizzly death by starvation haunted me. This lovely orange T-Rex is solid. The back of his mouth is blocked up. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that.

*shakes fist at memory of evil little brother*

Anywho...! We got a call today that our landlord is putting our apartment on the market. I wanted to cry for the following reasons:
  1. We love our apartment. It is our first official Coop. We even got engaged here, in this little sweat box of awesomeness that we call our own
  2. We cannot afford to buy our apartment (let alone renovate the crapola kitchen and bathroom)
  3. Moving sucks!!!!
  4. We now have to keep the place tidy at all times and strangers will be walking around opening our cupboards and draws. Creepy...
  5. The rental market in Melbourne could officially be termed as heinously competitive
  6. Even if an investor buys it and we can stay, the rent will go up
So Friday brought good news, Wednesday brought sucky news. Swings and roundabouts. We did a little reccy of the property market as we have been saving up a deposit and decided we can only afford to buy out back of the black stump.

For the benefit of non-Aussie's: "The Australian expression 'black stump' is the name for an imaginary point beyond which the country is considered remote or uncivilised, an abstract marker of the limits of established settlement" source

So in other words not good. Let's see what Thursday brings!

  1. Awful news about your coop. Hope it all works out and you don't end up like the fly at the back of beyond or the rear deep insides of a dinosaur

  2. I know it's a first world problem but having your rental sold from under you sucks. Also being at the whim of landlords because the prices are so high to buy in the city sucks. I'd love to buy but unfortunately we just aren't there yet...

  3. Well, it was destiny. We were meant to meet in this time of our lives when we both had to pick up and move. The dreaded move. You know I totally feel your pain as I have just lived this! I'm so sorry that your apartment is going on the market, especially a home that holds so many memories. You should take pictures of everything, no matter how small or how silly, they are your memories and later you can look back on it, but I'm sure you've already done this. I've missed your blog a great deal, I have been so busy with moving and with work. I have to say love the photo of you that you have on your profile! Who is your photographer? Is it hubby? Great job, you look fantastic!
One last thing... It's time you make your brother have a proper service of mourning to remember the dear fly!
    Much love,
    Tammy

  4. Haha I love the t-rex story! And that is sad about your coop... I absolutely hate moving even though I moved multiple times over the course of last year, and I'll have to do it again soon! Hope you find something that works out (maybe the dino will bring good luck!!)!
